How Chlorine Effects Humans
Chlorine can irritate the skin and eyes even if you are only exposed to a small amount for example in a swimming pool. Many accounts of harmful reactions with chlorine often occur in the workplace since it is often used as an industrial cleaning product because it is very strong. Chlorine can harm humans when they inhale it. Chlorine reacts with water to produce acids that are corrosive to the cells in our body. This can lead to respiratory problems such as chest pains and difficulty and rapid breath. Some extreme cases can even cause death.
How Chlorine Effects the Environment
Chlorine is naturally found in nature when it is bonded to sodium which is not harmful to the environment. Unfortunately it is harmful when it is in it's natural state as chlorine gas or when it is used as caustic soda ex. to make PVC. When chlorine is present in an artificial form it contributes to acid rain, global warming and harming the ozone layer. Destruction by burning PVC or other plastic materials created with chlorine causes pollution to the environment. This is because the smoke emits chemicals into the air.
Even though chlorine helps us by getting rid of harmful bacteria it is also a dangerous elements that can harm the environment and humans as well.
