20% of chlorine is used to make PVC. Ethylene, Chlorine and Hydrogen gas and Hydrocarbon, oils and caustic soda are needed to make PVC. PVC is a plastic like material that is cheap to make and has many uses which include electrical insulation, plastic frames and pipes commonly used for water transportation. It is easily recognizable which makes it easier to sort through for recycling. PVC is often used as water pipes because it is sterile, smooth, durable and fire retardent.
Disinfectants
Chlorine is used as a bleach and also to clean water and kill bacteria. Chlorine is used in pools and treating water because it kills bacteria. When chlorine reacts with water it turns into hydrochloric acid and other chemicals that kill bacteria. It later dissolves back into their natural elements and are no longer harmful as chlorine. Chlorine is also used as a bleach to clean clothes by reacting with existing stains. Stains are made of chromosomes that can be eliminated by hydrochloric acid and atomic oxygen which are products of chlorine reacting with water.
